  • Essay / Ben Franklin's Hard Work Analysis - 1337

This concept of meeting people and using them to your advantage is one of the main foundations of success here in America. The way Ben Franklin used the people and friends he met on his journey is what allows him to live the American dream and also what makes American networking valuable. From John Read, who allowed Ben to live with them upon his arrival in Philadelphia and who also ended up marrying his daughter, to Mr. Denham, who was a Quaker who helped Ben return to America after his 18-year stay months in England, Ben took advantage of the people he met during his trip. This is present in today's America with such an emphasis on networking that Ben Franklin was the first and perhaps greatest networker. Franklin moved from Boston to Philadelphia and also crossed the Atlantic to England. On each of these trips, he met new people who would be essential to his success. “The governor gave me an ample letter, saying many flattering things to my father to my father, and strongly recommending the plan of my settling in Philadelphia as a thing which would make my fortune” (Franklin 43). Franklin had already met the governor and gotten to know him, and that's why he sent a letter to his father when Ben needed money to start his new printing business. He not only used these people for his own benefit, but he was also honest.
