After reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath, I learned that there are thirty-four different themes one can have as strengths. Each strength has its own positives that allow people to work better with people who possess that style of strengths. Another key topic I learned is that everyone has their own personal strengths. The main principle that was taken away from reading this book was that the old phrase “You can be anything you want to be” is not a true statement (p. 6). This idea is taught to all of us from a young age and it tends to stay with us for the rest of our lives. Constrained by the past, most people are forced to try to correct their weaknesses, but not improve their strengths. We can't really be everything we want because we're not built that way. We are programmed to tend to stick to the things we are good at and when we are faced with a task similar to the one we are good at, we not only excel at the other task. By focusing on increasing the strengths we already have instead of fixing our weaknesses, we will be able to become a better human being because we master the areas in which we excel. Rath states that “talent times investment equals strength” (p. 20).” To me this is a very true statement. You may have the talent to do something, but if you don't invest your time to improve, you won't be better yourself. This could also be said of the drive to do something, but without the talent to complete the task, you can't truly be the best at it. The tool that helped us determine our strengths via the online assessment, related to Rath's previous quote. He asked you about both of your talents, what you were good at, and he asked you how you were... middle of paper ... that every decision I make must be ethical and must to fall. in my beliefs. If I were faced with a decision that would go against my ethical beliefs, I would have to comply with it, even if it meant losing my job. It's more important to be ethical than to worry about lying to everyone about the truth. The huge opportunity for me as a leader is to climb the corporate ladder. My extremely moral background will play a key role in being able to have the opportunity to evolve. Businesses look for people who are moral and willing to do the right thing for the business. Businesses want people who can keep their personal lives to themselves when they need to, but they want people with a high level of integrity who can run a business appropriately.
