"Teen violence refers to harmful behaviors that may begin early and continue into adulthood" (Teen Violence). As generations pass, the problem of adolescent violence remains. Why do children act the way they do? What factors explain their violent behavior? Questions like these don't have clear answers; instead, they seek out people's differing opinions. John Leo, Mike Males, Gloria Steinem, Charlie James, Chuck Shelton, Annette Fuentes and James Garbarino share their opinions on the controversy surrounding teen violence through newspaper and magazine articles. Each article has its own strengths, whether they are strong or weak. “Kids in a Violent World” by James Garbarino offers the most compelling causal analysis and helps reveal the problem of adolescent violence to its readers. James Garbarino's article, "Children in a Violent World" encompasses compelling reasoning behind the cause of adolescent violence. James Garbarino is a psychologist, professor at Cornell University and director of the Family Life Development Center; therefore, this article contains a strong philosophy. Not only is he credible, but he has also incorporated outside sources to strengthen his arguments. Garbarino was the only person, out of seven, to use various sources, making his logo clear and effective. Besides ethos and logos, Garbarino also incorporated pathos, the appeal to the audience's emotions. Emotions and spirituality play an important role in “Children in a Violent World” because they inspire readers to see the emotional side of the spectrum. His article focuses on social toxicity as the cause of adolescent violence. "The concept of social toxicity refers to the idea that there can be a cultural background and... middle of paper ...... in a violent world" has clear arguments, addresses a broad audience and makes no assumptions. In total, the seven articles presented contrasting causes of adolescent violence. James Garbarino's article, "Children in a Violent World," has the strongest ethos, logos, and pathos, and it also provided choice causal analysis where other authors lacked support. and made assumptions, Garbarino generated an argument that was much more appealing to a broader audience. So, with respect to this reasoning, James Garbarino's "Children in a Violent World" presents the most compelling causal analysis on the issue of adolescent violence.
