Interview with Classmate and Model Schlossberg 4S1 Situation: The TransitionMy client was Sonia and her transition was the change in her career choice. She said that before, when she was in high school, she wanted to study early childhood education because she thought she liked working with children. And when she started studying English at George Brown College, she discovered a lot of information about the early childhood education program and decided the program wasn't right for her. She found out a lot of information, like what type of job the person can do after completing the program, as well as the job description, like what their daily activities were. And after finding out what they did in that job, she decided not to study early childhood education. She says the work was very routine and physically demanding, which was not what she wanted to do afterward. So she decided to change her career choice. The transition was not planned as the change in her career choice did not occur until she began her studies at George Brown College. She said that after finding out what the early childhood education program was, she spoke to an academic advisor at George Brown so she could modify the program. Additionally, she says the transition was also anticipated because after starting her studies at George Brown College, she knows that the career choice she made when she was in high school was not what she really wanted to do. The transition Sonia experienced was an event and she chose to make these changes, so the source of the transition was internal. Sonia also told me that she sees this transition as a role gain because she knows she will be doing something different after she graduates. Besides, she also went to see...... middle of paper ...... will participate in the transition and will be the first person to be able to help her establish links with other supporters in her community. And finally, strategies are ways the client uses to manage their transition. The guidance counselor must know and understand how the client deals with change. Therefore, guidance counselors can help the client suggest actions to take. For example, if the client cannot think of a strategy that they can use to help them with their situation. As a guidance counselor, you can give him suggestions on strategies he can use. In conclusion, knowing Schlossberg's theory can help career counselors become aware of the factors that may influence the client's transition. And knowing the 4S model can help the guidance counselor be the mediator of their feelings and the person who can encourage them to move forward during the transition..
