Essay / Abortion: I am pro-life - 809
One of the most controversial issues in today's society is abortion, and as of now, it is morally acceptable because of the Roe v. Wade case. However, when a Minnesota study reveals that women who have had an abortion are 10 times more likely to commit suicide than women who have not had an abortion, it is time to seriously consider whether abortion should or should not be recognized as morally right. Considered by some to be a form of murder, anti-abortion laws should apply to all women in order to prevent any emotional harm to the abortion victim and to save the lives of innocent human beings who have not yet been born. . Pro-Choice advocates believe that abortion should be legalized because they believe it is necessary to give women a choice. They strongly believe that women are not subordinate and therefore should be allowed to make moral decisions and should not be forced to have a child, but why should the child suffer for the wrongdoings of his mother? Since only women can get pregnant, male legislators are not allowed to vote on anything related to abortion because it does not concern them personally. If an innocent woman is raped and subsequently becomes pregnant, should she be forced to give birth? Well, according to pro-choice advocates, she should have the right to decide for herself whether she wants to have an abortion. An innocent unborn baby should definitely not be punished for his father's crime and bad decisions. The mother must hold on during the nine difficult months it takes to be pregnant in order to save the life of the child who is developing perfectly inside her. Adoption is always an option and a much better alternative to murder. Yes, a woman has a choice, but there is always a morally right path to follow when faced with... middle of paper ...... If a pregnancy is unwanted and the woman must continue and have anyway, it could cause serious physical and mental problems to her personal well-being, but aborting does not eliminate the physical or mental problems destined to come, and if she did not want to get pregnant at this point, then she should have been chaste. “In everyday life, men and women make decisions that affect the lives and deaths of existing people. They decide whether or not to join the army; whether to donate blood, a kidney or bone marrow to a child; whether to donate money to Save the Children instead of buying a new sweater; whether to refuse a life-saving blood transfusion; whether to build a small fort on walls that may protect passengers in the event of an accident but often kill those in lighter vehicles” (Borgmann 23).
