Essay / Propaganda: When a lie becomes the truth - 3908
No matter how big the lie; repeat it often enough and the masses will accept it as truth” (John F. Kennedy). Propaganda is biased or misleading information used to promote a particular cause or political point of view. Throughout history, propaganda has been one of the most important tools of any ruling regime. Whether its use is benevolent or malicious remains up for debate, but there is no doubt that it has been used profusely and effectively. Propaganda has an undeniable effect on the thoughts and actions of the population to which it is addressed. Propaganda is of no use if it does not reach the people, and the propagandists had no difficulty in ensuring that it reached the public. A popular method of sending propaganda is to use airborne leaflets dropped from various aircraft. This is evident in North Korea's bombing of leaflets sent to South Korean border towns (The Journal, para. 4). Aerial propaganda is often overlooked, regardless of its effectiveness. Throughout history, air leaflets have played a crucial role in spreading propaganda into enemy territories. It has been a crucial means of delivery throughout history and is still used today, as evidenced by the North Koreans. Propaganda posters have always been the most notable and iconic form of propaganda and, as firstworldwar.com states: “Each of the nations that participated in World War I used propaganda posters” (parg. 1 ). Propaganda posters are easy and inexpensive to mass produce and have become an incredibly popular form of propaganda. As the aforementioned quote indicates, all countries involved in World War I resorted to propaganda posters. They can be placed virtually anywhere, which proves to be an extremely effective way to save paper at the Ocaust Memorial Museum. United States Holocaust Memorial Council, June 10, 2013. Web.
