    Drug use has been an interesting topic for sociologists, psychologists and criminologists alike. We all wonder why people use drugs, what personality traits are most likely to use them, and are the communities around them to blame? Drug use has been associated with higher rates of violence and murder, but recent research has indicated that most economic crimes involving drugs are not violent (Resignato 2000). Drug administration has been practiced for thousands of years and in all parts of the world. It is universal and for one reason or another the goal is to achieve certain physical and mental states (Goode, 2005). In this article, two theories will be discussed regarding drug use. Overall, we will discuss the positivist sociological view of illicit drug use as a form of behavior and ask why some people decide to take drugs rather than others. Another important perspective that we will discuss is constructionist theory as it relates to drug use and its social deviance.
