  • Essay / Advertising Project Essay - 1209

The Advertising Project was a great learning experience to learn what it takes to produce a print advertisement and get harsh consumer feedback. The project showed how difficult it is to produce good advertising that will grab consumers' attention and get them interested in purchasing the product you are trying to sell them. In my group, we used a method from the book Ads, Fads, and Consumer Culture by Arthur Asa Berger. We specifically used chapter four, “Climbing a Flagpole to See if Anyone Waving,” in this chapter Berger says to choose how you want to do an advertisement and do it. Whether the consumer likes it or not, it's a 50/50 bet. All you can do is what you think will work and work with it. And that's essentially the approach we had from the moment we were confronted with the project. Since we didn't want to play the gender card, the group and I thought that chapter four of Berger's book was the best one to use to produce our ad. Since this was a project with amateurs in charge, no budget and no professional training in marketing and advertising contributed to the difficulties of finding a location. Like if we had a budget to work with, we could... middle of paper ...... on the journey of this project, I didn't really know much and what it took to develop an ad quality. I now realize how much work it takes to produce these ads, and that it's not as simple as taking a photo and putting it in the magazine. These people who do this are professionals and pretty crazy for good reason, it's hard work to get a quality ad that will sell to consumers. I will never see an ad the same way I did before the project. Since I now have an understanding of the work that goes into it and the types of standards that should be considered quality and appealing to the consumer. I also understand what elements need to be considered and addressed when creating an ad, such as having a vibrant color range to grab the consumer's attention and including something in the photo that will make the ad memorable for the consumer..
