A decent number of people find it easy to regard poverty as the "will of God", thereby absolving themselves of any blame for the miseries created by bad conditions of society. In this regard, they also draw attention to several references in the Holy Bible to make their point. Similarly, some people emphasize the importance of charity and pro-poor spending to reduce poverty. In almost all Muslim societies, many believers argue that poverty cannot prevail if all wealthy Muslims pay their Zakat regularly. Some even believe that one should go so far as to claim that the implementation of the Islamic system of Zakat would bring in so many resources that the nation would not need to apply another tax to manage its affairs. However, such claims cannot be supported by reliable research or data. Far from the scenario of God's will, corruption is one of the main causes of poverty. What's more, all countries are corrupt, even rich governments. Corruption does not undo all that is good or explain all that is bad.
