1 IBFAN - INTERNATIONAL BABY FEEDING ACTION NETWORKIBFAN was founded on October 12, 1979 after the joint meeting of WHO and of UNICEF on infant and young child feeding. It contains 273 groups in 168 countries. IBFAN is an international network. The groups range from consumer organizations to health worker associations and mothers' support groups. There are also individual members. The International Child Feeding Action Network is made up of numerous public interest groups. IBFAN comprises 8 district offices. They are found in Africa, the Arab world, Europe, Oceania, Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America. One of the most important axes of IBFAN is the implementation of the international CODE for the marketing of breast milk substitutes. Infant feeding safety is also important, as well as human rights, as is the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Other topics include infant feeding in emergencies and in the context of HIV, contaminants in baby foods, and sponsorship issues. 1.1 VISION OF IBFAN IBFAN's objective is to enable the best for children and mothers by promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding.
