Casinos are known for their gambling, money, fun and luck. But have you ever wondered what it's like to work in such an establishment? Casino is part of the Hospitality Management division. There are several jobs in this field. For example, dealers, game supervisors, slot machine attendants, game runners/sports book editors and game managers. The casino business functions primarily as a ladder. You progress to the highest position. One of the highest careers of the general manager, which happens to be the one that caught my attention. General managers (GMs) negotiate all activities and services offered in a casino. Ranging from staffing issues to creating and following a budget. Casino general managers work with human resources, accounting, marketing, security, housekeeping, catering and gaming departments to develop procedures and plans, observe activities and guarantee customer happiness. “The general manager of a casino is responsible not only for the gaming portion of the operation, but also for the hotel and restaurants associated with it,” says Jim Bright, president of Bristol Associates. As for traveling, this career doesn't have many requirements. The only trip involved is finding a place that has a casino, since there are only 22 states with commercial casinos. As I mentioned earlier, the structure of a casino works like a ladder. To work as a general manager, you will need to work in one of the lower-level jobs to gain experience.
