    Global Economy and Environment As the global economy integrates, national or local companies will gradually transform into multinational corporations (MNCs). When this type of development occurs, the host countries are usually the ones who become the immediate actors. Indeed, when a multinational establishes itself in a host country, its actions have economic, political, social and environmental impacts. In many cases, it is certainly possible that this could result in a win-win situation, if the host country and the MNCUs work together. However, there have been unfortunate examples where this has not been the case. In general, international agreements have their advantages, because we can harmonize international standards. Therefore, environmental concern is one of the key issues that policy makers and MNCUs should give high priority to. Indeed, growth and development are strongly correlated with environmental degradation. Furthermore, it is fair to say that MNCUs are more likely to have a more detrimental environmental impact due to growth and development, unlike local businesses.
