1. INTRODUCTIONVideo streaming service is a growing business in recent years. Many streaming service providers are available in the market and there is a great competitive advantage between them. Some of the providers are Amazon Prime Instant, Hulu, Vudu, ITunes and each has its unique functionality. Netflix is one of the largest movie rental services in the United States and additionally provides subscribers with an Internet video streaming service. (Netflix Competitive Advantage, 2010). It was launched in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. (Netflix, 2014). Netflix has over 40 million subscribers who have access to over 100,000 titles as of mid-2013 (Netflix, 2014). They have over 42 shipping locations and ship over 1.575 million DVDs to subscribers daily (Netflix Competitive Advantage, 2010). In the United States, the highest ISP speed is 2.97 Mbps, provided by Vision-Optimum cable. Netflix and YouTube accounts account for more than 50% of downstream traffic on landline networks. Its design and traffic management play a key role in its network infrastructure (The ISP Speed Index, 2014). Netflix's main strategy is to attract more subscribers to the online video streaming service. Amazon, Blockbuster, Walmart, Redbox were among Netflix's competitors in movie rentals. Netflix consumes approximately 29.7% of peak downstream traffic due to its online video streaming service. (Adhikari, et al., 2012). Netflix's network architecture must be well organized to support high availability and scalability features. Netflix previously had its own data center to house the services and functions necessary for efficient video streaming availability for its customers.
