Essay / A Student According to Ted Kooser - 786
Ted Kooser's poem “Student” highlights how life as a student really is. As we were discussing our ideas about the poem “Student” by Ted Kooser in class, Omar Mejia mentioned how he found a comparison to a turtle in the poem. I imagined a baby turtle and its journey when it is born and running trying to reach the sea. I imagine the life of a turtle, which begins in the sand and begins after its journey to its future. Somehow I agree with this idea. As I imagine the complicated and hard life a sea turtle must have, I also remember how the life of a student could be just as hard and complicated. Sometimes a student's life can be as complicated, busy, blurry, stressful, happy, sad, depressing, demanding and joyful etc. The life of a student is a life full of responsibilities. Kooser first mentions the best friend. from a student “The green shell of his backpack” (Line 1). A backpack that will accompany the student for most of the study time in which the student will carry their books, notes and perhaps a computer. As for me, I have my backpack on most days at school, from class to the lunchroom as well as from chapel to my spiritual direction or training meeting as well. The backpack is also the “green shell”(1) of the student. This shell perhaps allows a student to feel safe because it contains the materials for the courses, the assignments to be submitted and it is in some way part of the student's future. From my personal experience, I am safer when I carry my backpack because I know that what I need for my classes is there, and also when I don't have my backpack, I feel out of place at school. Next, Kooser mentions "wave after wave of responsibilities" (2) the many responsibilities...... middle of paper...... "Hopefully, in the library" (9) is a good motivation for the student because with hope, the student began his journey. This can serve as a reminder of why the student decides to make the trip. The library is a tool always there to help the student fulfill the requirements of his journey to the future. During my journey, I think that without hope, I cannot be where I am now and that difficult times will cause me to fall apart. I am sure that the library is a tool that I can always use in my student assignments. There are many characteristics of a student and without a doubt, being a student is a difficult journey, full of ups and downs, pleasures and worries. This is the beginning of the future; the future that will one day reveal the fruit of years of work and effort as a student. In which, at the end of the student journey, the future awaits.
