  • Essay / The Importance of Social Work - 1265

Most of this growth is the increasing number of older people who need social services. Social workers who excel in gerontology will find more employment opportunities in assisted and senior living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and home health care. The needs of the future elderly population will likely be different from those of current elderly people. Currently, older adults are grateful for community living, while later generations may require more individual care. Employment in medical and public health social work is expected to grow 22 percent by 2018, much faster than the average for all countries.
