They not only treat insects, they also get rid of small rodents like mice, rats, squirrels and even bats. Pest control workers are known as exterminators or pest control technicians. Pest control technicians treat residential and commercial properties. They treat: ants, bedbugs, mice, cockroaches, centipedes, termites, bees, flies and spiders. Pest control technicians treat homes, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and warehouses. Some pest control technicians work for companies, but others are self-employed. They tend to earn more money if they work for themselves rather than for a company, but they are at greater risk of having accidents. This is a scenario: If a pest control technician sprays a house and they break or tear something, they will have to pay for the damages. For this reason, they must be insured and bonded. Although many people view the pest control industry as a dirty or unpleasant job, few people know what they actually do. Once the insects are eliminated, the pest control technician will return and inspect for any signs of new activity from other pests.
