Essay / Technology has shaped my life - 1045
Throughout my life, I have strived to seek answers beyond my own experiences and tried to help others as they venture into their own strange territories of learning. Curious and inquisitive, my four-year-old bespectacled face was always buried in a book, reading intently and learning more about the world. I accumulated hundreds of books that I read repeatedly, which gave me a boost in my learning process, one that few others had. Every time I discovered something new, I continually strived to unravel each web within it until I understood it from front to back. This great affinity for reading was only surpassed by my ever-growing passion for computers. A subtle introduction to the computer world via educational games allowed me to discover a world of vast proportions, which I still explore today. My interest as a child was first intrigued by the bright, flashy colors and interaction I had with the game, but once I discovered the world outside of the game, the world on which the game was built, my perspective on technology changed. From that point on, whenever I got a new electronic gadget, my first instinct was to go back and forth through each menu and option until I could essentially do it again. At this point however, the extent of my exploration was limited to right and left clicking, with my computer skills being at the very beginning of the levels. I was able to quickly understand complex concepts from the computer and literary world that one would not expect from a child my age, and once learned, I made sure to share it with others. As the kids struggled to read and a teacher feigned support, I made sure to help my friends and push them along the way. Many friends at school were middle of paper......yes. After thinking about what skills I needed to bring to the community that not everyone had access to, I realized I needed to put my IT skills up for auction. Older members of the community rushed to sign up for a course or consultation that met their specific technology needs, and I offered it to them. There were so many people bidding that I had to make a few more stops than I had originally planned. Not only did I feel a sense of accomplishment, but I also felt happiness knowing that I was able to give back to the community however I could. As I grew up and matured, I saw that technology, computers and the mentality acquired when learning about technology have shaped much of my life. Whether it's a better understanding of logic and mathematics, or acquiring the skills needed to teach and consult with others, technology has influenced many of my life's decisions..
