There are many examples of conflict in this poem. The Odyssey is full of conflict and that's part of what makes it so appealing. Odysseus faces many difficulties on his long journey home. Some are external conflicts. It seems like every time something good happens to him, that's when disaster strikes. Not only does Odysseus face conflict, but so do his wife and son. Odysseus also faces several internal conflicts. These conflicts cause the reader to empathize with the characters and feel better about the conflicts in their own lives. Homer used both internal and external conflict in The Odyssey to create a believable and interesting story that people can relate to.
