  • Essay / Law Student Ambitions - 809

My involvement in student affairs stems from my personal experiences of unintentional but unmistakable injustice in the school. Economic realities meant traveling back and forth between two countries and the lack of compatibility between the schools' secular programs left me with no opportunity to graduate, even if I was a good student. Fortunately, with the guidance and help of a knowledgeable community program, I was able to drop out of high school, earn a GED, and enroll in college within two months. The experience encouraged me to mentor others in similar positions where possible. and trying to create new possibilities in situations where I felt fairness was lacking. The first of these opportunities was for students with disabilities. My own disability is irritable bowel syndrome, which I have learned to manage well through dietary restrictions and relaxation exercises during severe attacks. Because of this, I was able to work to my full potential, completing twenty-one credit hours in a single semester, with a 3.81 GPA for the semester while working nights and weekends. Still, I would have relapses in subsequent semesters, especially when it corresponded to a later diagnosed illness. The new symptoms caused me to miss classes and get incomplete and retroactive temporary grade changes. As I learned to manage the new symptoms (this time with medication), I was furious to learn that students who dropped out for involuntary medical reasons often received transcript grades that were, in some ways, worse as voluntary withdrawals. With the support of Disability Services and the “Student Organization for Every Disability,” I have opened a dialogue with student government as well as relevant academic departments with the goal of changing the rules for…. .. workplace..... .IT services company. The highly autonomous position requires constant, consistent and rapid deduction to eliminate variables, solve complex problems and move our clients forward. Additionally, in all of the computer science electives I have enrolled in, including robotics, programming, and AI theory, my grades are “A” or higher. Although I have not yet chosen a particular branch of law in which I would like to specialize, I am confident that my interests, studies and experiences will allow me to succeed in any branch I choose. I also know that my holistic value as an individual, student, and professional is not well represented by standardized test scores. As a law student, I plan to approach my studies with the same tenacity that earned me Honors, Dean's List and Magna Cum Laude, but also remain active in student affairs and help others to succeed when possible..
