Essay / The Arctic Monkeys' Thrilling Fifth Album
It's been almost a decade since the start of their career, and the Arctic Monkeys have aged gracefully to reflect their talented, world-weary image with a well-established album, "AM" . For a band whose early lyrics were filled with playful and sassy one-liners, we all wondered if the Arctic Monkeys actually enjoyed being in a band, or if they were just socially awkward and unaccustomed to fame with their hair covering their faces and very baggy brown hoodies that looked about twice their size. At times they also seemed very dubious about their own fame, while their last two albums seemed not loved but taken very seriously. The Arctic Monkeys' fifth album, "AM", is undoubtedly the most significant album of their career. It manages to connect in all directions – the melancholic pop of “Suck it and see” and the powerful melodies of “Humbug”, with their soaring energy and sense of excitement that boosted their early tracks. From this point on, the Arctic Monkeys can talk whatever they want, do whatever they want, and will always be known as the Arctic Monkeys and simply Arctic Monkeys. But that's all for another time in their ridiculously optimistic future, so for now let's celebrate this album for what it is, 42 minutes of pure perfection. “AM” is so good it might as well be the greatest album of the last decade. . It is the work of a group that continues to grow. They learn, experiment and improve. They won't look back on this album and say it was the high point of their career (because we can expect a lot more albums like this, or even better), but they will remember the moment when they will no longer be defined by their gender. I don't know anymore... middle of paper ... feels like he moved from telling stories of sordid nightlife to more self-tearing songs, with a sound so relevant to the subject matter, something which the Arctic Monkeys have always been good at, sharing the talents of each of their members, to create something spectacular. “AM” goes beyond all the sweaty clubbing and flirting that previous Arctic Monkeys albums entailed. This is clearly a turning point for the band, instead they're talking about rundown hotel rooms, after parties and the bad decisions that can result. As I said before, this is the work of a group that is growing rapidly but still experimenting with its wonderful talents. And so they created their own artists who can do whatever they want, because we all know without a doubt "Who The F**** Are The Arctic Monkeys"..’’
