Value of ResponsibilityReason for ResponsibilityIt can be argued that the sole objective of a corporation is to maximize returns for the shareholders of that corporation. It is widely accepted that businesses must stay within the bounds of the law. However, the obligation a business has to society is often vague. A company that has higher ethical standards demonstrates responsibility and character towards its community, which includes employees, consumers, the environment and all other stakeholders. New Global Citizens is an organization that receives financial support from others. Society gives adolescents the opportunity to solve global challenges. Other companies have invested money in NGC and other similar organizations to obtain large and unique rewards. Companies focus on out-of-the-box tasks: Organizations are expected to be profitable and financially successful in order to be able to sustain themselves. There are numerous legal expectations that a company must follow in almost every aspect of its operations. These laws include consumer and product laws, environmental laws, and labor laws. (Barnett, Tim. 2010) The responsibilities of many businesses extend beyond the legal side of operations. Organizations such as NGC have a clear focus on community support activities. Companies have employees trained in finance, marketing and operations management, but are not trained to deal with the multifaceted problems of society. If a company tried to solve society's problems itself, it might make the situation worse.
