  • Essay / The Importance of Political Socialization - 740

Political socialization, the process of acquiring the principles of political culture transmitted from those immersed in it to those who are not, shapes and develops people with their roles and opinions on politics (Jillson). People go through a long and complicated process of incorporating and combining their own thoughts, feelings, and evaluations about politics, which later brings diversity in political socialization. My political socialization is not constructed by my parents who usually have the most influence on their children's politics, but mainly by the environment around me and online news and publications. I didn't know at all how the country was run. The world of politics and government seemed complicated and this incident happened just the night before the university's annual Triton Day. Triton Day welcomes new students from different cultures and nations. Simply, Donald Trump supporters do not welcome foreign students. The University of San Diego, where diversity and respect for all cultures should have been valued, has become the home of anti-Mexicans. It's not just one school in California. In the New York Times, an article titled “Pro-Trump Chalk Messages Spark Conflict on College Campuses” was published. The article noted that students across the United States are demanding freedom of speech when they write “Trump 2016.” Furthermore, proponents add anti-religion to anti-diversity. Some scrawled “Stop Islam” next to “Trump 2016.” Obviously, partisans do not accept the beliefs of others outside of their own beliefs.
