Essay / Homeschooling: The Best or Worst Idea Ever
Early in my writing career, I developed many skills that helped make me the writer I am today. Being homeschooled, I never took a formal language arts class, so none of my posts were ever edited by other kids in my class or by a teacher, which keeps me guessing what important skills I was unable to learn. Over the past four years, from kindergarten to grade 12, I have gone through a lot of struggles and trials and let my intellectual development stall, so to speak, I have no practice in writing material. Even while studying at home, writing was not my preferred form of communication, I much preferred giving a speech or presentation to tell my story or make my point. Writing has always been something I've struggled with, where speaking is something that comes naturally, my words don't stare at me from an editable page, giving me time to go over or edit them. I remember countless hours spent sitting writing long, boring papers when I would rather be outside playing or swimming. But it wasn't always completely terrible, she let me write about whatever topic I wanted... The problem was that while I could write about whatever I wanted, it wasn't like I wanted to write in First of all, it just made it bearable. It also helped that I could find topics that I was really interested in and wanted to learn more about, so I was learning a lot, but I wasn't improving much in writing or grammar. Even so, I still have the desire to learn and being more mature than I was during my K-12 years, I have the discipline and drive to become a better writer. Who knows? I might even start to enjoy writing. I would like to see writing become one of my strengths throughout my time here at OCU, it is a skill that I will need from now on, for the rest of my life, and I must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in writing. I know that becoming a better writer won't happen overnight, so I have to be patient and persistent in my practice. Over time, I will shape and mold my skills to become a good writer, maybe even a great one..
