Leadership and ManagementLeadership and management have been at the forefront of the great achievements of mankind since time immemorial. The world has seen great leaders like Alexander, Napoleon, Winston Churchill, etc. achieve things that seemed impossible. Similarly, history has seen great empires collapse due to lack of leadership. Just to put things in the current context, a good national leader has the capacity to add 2-3% to the country's GDP in the short term and incremental growth in the long term and vice versa. Although leadership and management have various interrelated facets, we must first understand them in isolation to later understand the possible interaction. Leadership can be explained as a process of social influence in which a person tends to influence a group and a people in accomplishing a common task. For some people, a leader is simply someone people follow or someone who leads other people. There have been various studies on leadership that have led to great ideas about leadership. The “trait theory of leadership” was one of the first theories of leadership. According to this theory, leadership is based on certain attributes or traits, it further sought to explore the qualities or traits that define or distinguish an individual as a leader. However, in the 1940s and 1950s, as research on leadership development came into focus, a series of studies were conducted that prompted scholars to take a radically different view of the determining factors of leadership. By moving from a leader to a manager, we could ensure that he can get 120% from his team. Leadership would obviously be one of the three key skills that a manager of today or tomorrow would need in abundance to carry out their tasks effectively, other skills would be the ability to innovate (this would help to keep up to date rapidly changing scenarios) and being Tech Savy would be the other major skill that would be required in a future manager, as technology is already redefining the way businesses operate and will continue to do so at an increasing rate in the near future. These leaders would be able to make their organizations flexible and agile. , less hierarchical and all the more innovative leading to better value creation for shareholders .
