  • Essay / Human Nature in Living Like Weasels by Annie Dillard

Engineering is what I discovered and went from a foreign concept to something that became an integral part of my life, my existence. I can't imagine my future not being related to engineering, because it has become something that defines me. Even though I have found my necessity, something I am willing to seize with all my might, so many other people my age have not found theirs. Dillard says we should be like a weasel and find something that matters to us and hold it close to our hearts, and that's how I feel about it too. As humans, we have moved away from nature, building big cities that surround us with so much noise that we get lost in them. You have to take a step back, return to nature and instinct, to move forward. Bring back the instinct to make a decision, to take a fork in the road, to move forward and live the way we are meant to live. Find our purpose in life and hold on to that necessity so that it becomes an integral part of our very being, so that even in death it is still a part of us. Annie Dillard's essay, "Living Like Weasels," gives an interesting take on how humans should be more like weasels. Weasels are creatures free from all the wants and desires of humanity, focusing solely on that is a necessity. We should learn to live more like weasels, to find our one purpose in life and live for it, letting it consume our very being..
