    One of the things in the movie that contrasts with today's culture is the amount of hazing that was done by the seniors to the freshman year. Ending hazing is a major topic on college campuses, so seeing something like this is atypical in our current culture. Teenage hazing didn't exist when I was in high school and I think that speaks to how society has changed. My high school experience was much stricter than shown in the film, and it seems that teenagers of that time period enjoyed a lot more independence in school than people of my generation. Even scenes of children smoking cigarettes at school seem bizarre to someone who went to high school in the 21st century because of the rules in place to prevent smoking in schools.
