Essay / Graceling: Themes and Characters in Graced By Kristin...
When Kristin adds the explanation of the kingdoms, it shows how difficult the next adventure will be: “It was a land of seven kingdoms. Seven kingdoms and seven totally unpredictable kings” (45-46). The author uses this information to make Kasta different in each region and kingdom, whether to better disguise himself or to avoid people. Just as Po warns Kasta before going on a trip with Princess Bitterblue: “'Don't trust any Monsean, you understand? You must not trust anyone who might have been touched by the Grace of Leck'” (661-662). If the author had not put the group in contact with the area where King Leck spread his lies, the group would not know what Leck is doing to innocent people or if it could happen to anyone else. Although these three elements are very important, there are many other literary elements that add to the story of the story.
