Educational trends come and go. It is up to the educational leader to decide which trend will work best for their school. The educational leader must know educational trends and their success rates, identify research gaps and their cost. Cost is not just a reference to financial obligations. Cost also refers to the level of faculty and student engagement. No educational trend will succeed if teachers and students do not support the program. Education is big business. Many educational resource companies are constantly developing new ideas and technologies that will revolutionize education. It is the responsibility of the educational leader to determine which new trend will complement the school's vision. The educational leader should ask whether the trend will reinforce the school's short- and long-term goals. The educational manager must seek the opinion of teachers. This is an essential step in the process, since it is teachers who will be responsible for implementing the new trend. The educational leader must also be aware of the financial obligations that may be attached to educational trends. It is also necessary to consider what the cost of maintaining the trend will be, what additional resources might be needed from one year to the next, and what type of support is available. Once all these elements have been taken into account and a choice has been made, the educational leader must commit to the educational trend and be its biggest supporter.
