A few examples were presented in Behague's introduction to Latin American music. One of his earliest examples was the Mexican Revolution of 1910. He explains that such an event and the country's leaders paid little or no attention to the classical music scene of Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean in particular. As a result, a Mexican musician, Julian Carrillo, began exploring microtones. Which led to a very promising development of music in Latin America. A second major historical event came from slavery in the 18th century and earlier. Colonizers brought hundreds and thousands of slaves from Africa to North and South America. With the slaves came various musical influences like that of drums, various executive forces like drums, and various other instruments. These, among others, are just a few major historical events that had a considerable influence on Latin America.
