Keats' Ode to a Nightingale explores the changes that are only temporary in life, the transformative power of art, literature and imagination and how they cause both positive and negative changes. It also explores beauty, truth and their ability to transform an individual. Keats also explores the contrasting concepts of immortality and death, beauty and truth, imagination and reality. As you can see in my visual representation, I am referring to these paradoxes. There are two sides, one symbolizing life, beauty, truth and immortality and the other in total contrast representing death, mortality, suicide, reality and aging. This is the main concept of the ode which refers to change. The changes Keats makes throughout the poem. The idea of change is central to the poem. The main concept concerns temporary change in life, as an imaginary experience brought about by art and literature. These art forms momentarily take you away from reality and immerse you in imagination and fantasy, but there is always a wake-up call when you need to return....
