    Awareness raising is an essential weapon in the fight against human trafficking. Aside from the bloody coup that took place in Romania in late 1989, the world knows very little about this Eastern European country (Smith). Romanians are proud of their country and the way they recovered it from communism; If they were aware that their reputation in the West is linked to forced prostitution and corruption, the problem would probably be fought more fiercely at home. For this to happen, awareness must be raised, inside and outside Romania.
