Essay / Technology - Covering the World from 1953 to 1201
Today, technology controls almost everything we do, from how we travel to what we eat. The power of technology brings about good and evil, medicines and poisons. Thanks to technology, we have much more access to information than in previous decades. For example, every day you can absorb as much knowledge as King Henry VIII did in his entire life. This access to enormous amounts of information is due to improving technology. Unfortunately, technology also has a sinister side. With faster communication, made possible by today's technology, rumors can spread more quickly and children can be bullied more easily. Almost every teenager has a cell phone that provides them with daily “news.” Most of this information is inconsequential. For example, there was an article online about a celebrity wearing the same shirt twice: Congratulations, you figured out she has a washing machine too! The information from the many TV channels currently available is no better, there might be a two minute discussion about how Russia invaded Ukraine and then the program quickly cuts to a violent cinematic advertisement. The human mind will only blur the lines between two; the invasion of Ukraine seems fake and dreamlike and is not taken seriously. This distorts the way people perceive the information they have access to. Another way television news blurs the lines of reality is the way it portrays relationships. Romantic movies and TV shows sugarcoat relationships and make real relationships feel inadequate. When girls search for their "Prince Charming" or their "Mr. That's right", they always think of people they have seen on TV and not in real life. It's not their fault, society has raised them to believe that the life presented on television is a better world than real life. In Fahrenheit 451, a science fiction... middle of paper ...... the similarities between our world and that of Fahrenheit 451 are demonstrated through the role technology plays in information censorship and creating problems in real relationships. . As technology advances, humans will become dependent on it. This will eventually become the determining factor in relationships and the amount of information we have. Let's hope our governments don't start burning anything that offends any of their citizens, because then we'll be left with nothing. This way, even if everyone says it will be possible to keep everyone happy, there will always be a group of unhappy people. If someone burned all the books that offend people, that is, all books, then book lovers would be unhappy. There will always be a group of unhappy people. Hopefully our society can find a solution that will at least make them unhappy..
