Essay / My Ideas on Asian Dilemma - 881
The chapter discussed how most Asian countries have slowly devastated different aspects of nature due to their greed for money and personal interests. While they were so busy finding ways and innovating new technologies to become rich, they didn't even bother to think about the consequences that might arise. First, they have destroyed our environment. Most of our trees, which were supposed to provide us with shade and protect us from floods, have been cut down by large multinational countries. They even exploited our virgin forests, like those of the Pacific islands, rich in wood, or those of Suriname. Today, three-quarters of the rest of the world's forests are threatened by logging. Second, primitive peoples were also affected, such as the Aetas, the Wik and the Komoro, who fought a losing battle against peoples who were destroying their place, their rights and their way of life. Third, the rapid extinction of our wild animals, such as tigers, bluefin tuna and giant whales. Due to rapid population growth, demand for food also increased rapidly, leading to overfishing and competition between countries to choose those with favorable fishing grounds. Tiger poaching was also so widespread that there were fewer than 4,000 tigers left in the world. Fourth, the growth of energy consumption. Carbon dioxide emissions were increasing, dependence on oil and fossil fuels was very likely, and the construction of coal-fired power plants was also used today to provide goods and services, especially in countries like India, China and Indonesia. The fifth problem was food shortage. Although some people, especially the richest, were not yet in this phase, but according to UNICEF, about 40,000 p...... middle of paper ...... American countries were still CO2 dependent- By emitting factories and products, like cars, the likelihood that we would be prone to typhoons and other natural calamities was high. For example, Typhoon Yolanda. We may not have this devastating typhoon if only we set our borders at the right limits. But then, because we didn't think about the risk of crossing borders, the devastating consequences doubled compared to what we did to Mother Nature. This should be a lesson for all of us. As a future member of the media world, I should maintain my integrity and play my role to serve the country well through communication by telling and warning people to start having an ecological mindset and use my knowledge to share this which should be the right thing to do and what is sustainable and effective in order to save my environment for a livable future.
