Kate Chopin was born on February 8, 1850 in the city of Saint-Louis; she was one of the first American feminist authors of the late 19th century to write short stories about her feminist side (Wyatt). “The Tempest” means one of her short stories that she wrote; it tells the story of an outside marital affair between a woman named "Calixta" and her former lover, "Alcee." Even though Kate Chopin completed her short story “The Tempest” in 1898, it could not be published due to the scandalous and erotic content of the story. It took almost 70 years and Kate Chopin's lifetime for the story to be eligible for publication, until 1969.
