Transport/Traffic The public transportation system in Doha, Qatar is still developing, but is not yet as widespread as in many other cities. With cheap fuel, cheap cars and a growing road network, cars remain the most widely used means of transportation. There is an improving bus system in Doha and a government-run taxi service, but it is relatively new and has been overused during peak hours. .There is no train, tram or metro system in operation in Qatar. A metro is planned for Doha, but it is not expected to be completed for several years. Air travel enjoys a great global reputation thanks to the Qatar Airways fleet, and Doha is the heart of it all. Bus – To travel by bus, passengers must purchase a Karwa Smartcard, which replaced the use of cash in early 2011. The cards are swiped when boarding and departing buses, and then travel costs are charged. - In Doha, services operate from early morning until midnight. -Front seats are reserved for women and children. -Buses can be boarded from specific stops all around the city, or can be taken on major intercity highways.Taxi-pickups can be arranged by calling, but you may wait a long time for a taxi to arrive. - Taxis also meet for services in shopping centers and hotels, and this is usually the best way to get a ride although the wait can take some time.-All taxis are metered.Air-Doha International is the country's main airport and is located 3 miles south of the city center.-Qatar Airways serves more of 100 destinations worldwide.-The New Doha International Airport is a new airport located 2.5 miles east of the current airport and is under construction.
