Essay / 18th-century British society was divided along social classes and gender roles. Men were considered better at exercising leadership, while women were considered better at maintaining and managing domestic affairs. During this period, women were deprived of the exercise of their rights and played a limited role in society. Women were not allowed to vote, own property, and most importantly, they were denied the right to receive an education equal to that of men during this era. Women were deprived of the ability to acquire knowledge and exercise reason. Marriage was the main goal of their lives. Not everyone agreed that society underestimated women's abilities. Wollstonecraft, disagreed with how women were perceived and wanted to make changes. she wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Women, where she exposes the reasons why women were perceived as objects. She felt that parents and schools contributed to the neglect of women's education. As a result, women were portrayed as weak. Mary Wollstonecraft had very particular views on the role that education played in women's lives and strongly emphasized how disadvantaged they were in society. Wollstonecraft points out that in society, women are considered inferior to men. Sbe believes that everyone should be equal, but the way society has been structured has greatly affected the inequalities between them. She says it is the law of nature. She considers that women's minds are not in a healthy state due to lack of limited knowledge and she compares this action to the process that the flower undergoes to grow. She states that “flowers that are planted in too rich soil, strength and utility are sacrificed to beauty; and posted leave...... middle of paper ......m to become active in society. In conclusion, Mary Wollstonecraft raised some interesting points about education. Lack of education prevents them from gaining a place in society. Women have been treated and seen as having a lower status and believe that women should receive an education that would allow them to develop their reasons. They can become more useful and valuable members of society. This would prevent women from being characterized as objects and only having value because of appearance and the qualities men look for in a woman. Women have been “isolated” from the truth and taught to believe that they are inferior, which can make it more difficult for them to hear and accept its ideas. Women need freedom to be virtuous. If women are not allowed to freely develop their abilities, they will remain weak and continue to be seen as errors of nature..
