The author intends to examine why and offer ideas and opinions on ways to improve this by critiquing 2 articles in this area. If we take engineering, science, mathematics and technology professions as an example, a significant gap persists, particularly in management and leadership positions. The why of this; well, the classic theories about prejudice, discrimination, absence or small number of role models, attitudes towards family and caring responsibilities and work-life balance are those who are favored as the reason why women are not as prevalent in these professions as perhaps they should be in the 21st century. century. Many governments, universities/colleges and organizations have attempted initiatives to try to reverse this trend and improve the statistics of women in these professions. Programs such as mentoring programs and career development programs have attempted to narrow the gap, as mentioned earlier.
