Essay / US Navy Cultural Assessment - 1987
Mission Statement The US Navy was founded as an organization that will train and activate qualified naval combat personnel. The official mission statement removed from their website states: “The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train, and equip combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining the freedom of the seas. » (http://www.navy.com) The Navy also prides itself on the adventurous spirit it takes to embark on a career in the Navy. The slogan used to recruit new recruits is “Accelerate your life”. These statements suggest that the Navy is not only clear in its purpose and design, but also determined to achieve its goals. The clarity of its mission shines through in the extensive training recruits receive at boot camp and in the mental focus directed by their superiors to focus on the mission statement. When recruiting, the Navy looks for young men and women, often mired in school and jobs that, to an eighteen or nineteen year old, seem boring and slow-paced. Work environment The navy work space is most often at sea, on a ship, or in a submarine. Part of the Navy's mission is to maintain the freedom of the seas, so the sea is their place of work. The design of many of these ships does not allow for enormous amounts of space or access to the outside world. A ship in the middle of the ocean restricts a person's mobility. The ideal is therefore to function as a team and work as a unit in order to achieve the objective. Small spaces emphasize connection with your shipmates. Use of slogans “Life, liberty and the pursuit of all who threaten it” is currently the slogan of the United States Navy. The slogan was intended to express the Navy's core mission, which is to project power globally to protect and defend America. Furthermore, it has become a goal, pride and loyalty in defending your country and what it represents. Past slogans intended to capture the real meaning and spirit of the Navy were "Sailors Have More Fun", "Go Navy", "Fly Navy", "Join the Navy and See the World", "You and the Marine, at full speed. ", "It's not just a job. It's an adventure! » and “Speed up your life”.
