World War II had a significant effect on America, on how we were perceived in the world, on how our culture would grow and develop, and how our citizens would develop and solve the problem. land on their return. It brought people together for a time, who were then torn apart, and changed the way Americans viewed higher education. Perhaps more importantly, it brought America to the world and presented it as something that could grow and become a part of their culture, call it the Coca-Colonization of the world (Marling). This had an effect on the status of women. in the economy, on the ability of blacks and Hispanics to advance (for a short time) and on the movement of returning soldiers into homes they could buy in the suburbs to get away from city life while still being close enough to the city to enjoy all it offers. Add to this the cultural changes brought about by the effects of the nuclear bomb and the Cold War and you have many new and unseen effects of war (HS102). In every war, women had mobilized to try to help the men who went off to fight, but the more agrarian societies of the Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and even World War I most of them mobilized to do the work on the farm. During World War II, wives and mothers were just as likely to mobilize for positions in a factory as in the fields. While America was still primarily agrarian, the factories needed for war had caused women to take the place of their husbands, sons, and boyfriends. And while some women followed their husbands to the battle front during the Civil War, and a few even enlisted as men, World War II brought a whole new experience as a massive war machine needed the men on the fronts for... of paper ......bigger and better brought a whole new way of life that was exported.
