Essay / We need electronic surveillance - 3536
Our society would not survive the 21st century without the help of electronic surveillance. Security is one of the main goals of electronic surveillance. Safety is the state of being safe and free from harm. Today, many prefer to give up their privacy for security reasons (Smithsimon). In fact, surveillance gadgets such as cameras, radio tracking chips, and home alarms are used in many places to provide security. For example, a parent can easily place a hidden camera in a stuffed animal to see how the babysitter handles their child (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras are also used to ensure security in the school premises. According to the GCC College Safety website, "the college has an extensive surveillance camera system [that] monitors and records [everything in order] to improve safety and security on campus." These cameras monitor all parking lots, driveways and athletic fields to prevent harm to students and employees. Another burgeoning monitoring gadget is called a radio tracking chip, which is a human tracking device inserted under the skin. In fact, Brazil has a waiting list of 2,000 people for these gadgets, in order to reduce the rate of kidnappings in their country and promote security (Human Stock Control). Besides cameras and tracking devices, home alarms are another tool used for security measures. According to the ADT security website, they provide the ADT security system which monitors for any smoke, fire, water leak, carbon monoxide and any medical alert situations. Many homeowners purchase alarm systems in order to feel safe inside or outside their home. Overall, security is definitely one of the main reasons why monitoring devices are widely used...... middle of paper ......nity College. . “Products and services.” ADT. January 2008. ADT.
