  • Essay / Negative Effects of Computer Games - 977

Whenever I pass through the dormitory, I can always see people playing computer games anywhere. Whether it's a video game on the big TV screen or an online computer game, people like to spend a huge amount of time on it, through hours and hours of gaming, trying to achieve amuse. But at the same time as we gain pleasure, video games have certain harmful effects: a lot of violence contained in video games; social isolation caused by games; health problems caused by prolonged play; and the confusion between reality and fantasy through games. This really causes a lot of problems when playing computer games. Therefore, I believe that computer games have more disadvantages than advantages. Violence in video games is a big problem for these young children and most video games contain violence. A 2001 content analysis by the research organization Children Now showed that a large number of video games contain violence and that half of them would result in serious injury or even death in the "real" world. ". Children often say that their favorite video games are violent. Dr. Anderson and colleagues have shown that playing a lot of violent video games is linked to more aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (Anderson & Bushman, 2001). Additionally, “playing violent games is also linked to children being less willing to be caring and helpful to their peers.” Importantly, research has shown that these effects occur just as much in non-aggressive children as in children who already have aggressive tendencies” (Anderson et al., under review; Gentile et al., 2004). The effect of being violent is even increased in games. In many games, combat becomes the main line running through the entire middle of the paper part of their lives. Tragedies like theft of money for games, theft from smaller children, dropping out of schools are often heard. And children who wallow in the world of play always do poorly in their schoolwork and other work because they devote all their attention and time to their games. Every second spent on homework, families, classes and even sleep is spent playing computer games. Playing computer games, as a newly developed and widespread activity, attracts many young children who play with their own pleasure and charm. But when enjoying the happiness and other benefits it can bring, we must be careful and recognize its harmful effects such as the contained violence, the isolation it can bring and the health problem it causes. Things aren't worth doing if they present more problems than benefits, and this works for computer games too..
