Essay / I don't have any American friends - 1019
HOST: Today, more and more students choose to study abroad in America, such as Chinese students. Some people might think that international students can easily get together with local students. However, things are really different from that. The truth is that most Chinese international students still can't get along with American students. Only a few Chinese international students have local American friends and despite this, they simply have fewer American friends. Why can't they make American friends? Furthermore, since some parents are very controlling of their children, does this phenomenon put pressure on students from their parents and how can we solve this problem? Jia Ren, an international student from China studying at ASU, talks about her situation regarding whether or not to have American friends. Jia: I don't have any American friends. I think the hardest part to keep me from being great friends with them is the language. Host: Jia Ren talks about her situation, she has no American friends and she also points out that one problem that prevents her from becoming friends with Americans is the language. Jia Ren also explains it specifically. Jia: I'm always afraid to talk to them. It's because I don't know if I talk about this or if I talk in this form, they will be angry with me or not. I'm afraid that what I said might give another meaning to American students, which might cause problems. Host: People must admit that Jia Ren said that parts of language with different meanings will always cause problems when we communicate. This is a big problem because international students cannot communicate with local students. In addition, there are still internal problems among international students themselves, which prevent them from successfully communicating with local authorities... middle of paper ...... Deng: Talking with my daughter, I I actually have a new perspective. to mix up this new American life.Host: So the main reason Mr. Deng doesn't blame his daughter for not making American friends is communication. We all know that communication can solve many problems. Thus, Chinese students may try to talk to their parents to prevent their parents from controlling their friendships. Additionally, according to our interviews, the two most important issues preventing international students from making local friends are language and internal factors. Local American students think that language is a problem, but the problem is that international students always only stay with students from the same country and speak their own language. Ultimately, it's easy to see that students on both sides can do one small thing to change this problem. But we still hope that the university can lend a hand to help them..
