  • Essay / Why English is important - 927

Why should I take English courses? Who needs to know everything about creating sentence diagrams, proper use of prepositions, misplaced modifiers, malapropos, etc.? How will I use it in everyday life. Well, I guess it's pretty simple; communication. Without the use of good English we would have difficulty communicating. Let's start by looking at a fundamental form of communication, the journal. How many times have I read the newspaper and had to reread it several times to understand what it said. It seems that the world has become indifferent when it comes to the English language. We just put words on paper and that's it. We don't care if it makes sense or not. I guess we think we can speak English, that should be enough. It's a sorry way to think, even though many of us think that way. I myself am guilty of inferring that the use of English is mainly the teaching of someone who has said that this is how it is and that this is what is appropriate. I asked why this is so, but isn't that the way to learn everything? Wasn't it necessary to have a father or mother who founded this or that discipline? Someone had to find a collective way of looking at things so that we could all understand as a whole a common or appropriate way of doing things. Without it, we would experience chaos. Another disadvantage of the English language is technology, i.e. the Internet and text messaging. With the introduction of the Internet and text messaging, we are losing more and more of our usual English speaking practices. are shortened or become a few letters and we get used to it, but for academia it creates a weakened English system. I'm not saying we all need to be English teachers, but we need to work on regaining our use of English... middle of paper... they think they know everything they need to know and no one can teach them, but if we listen for a while, the time will come when we can remove the cotton from our mouths and be able to speak intangiblely and coherently with our educator. Finally, to my educator, the smartest person I know and also my wife, I am sorry for making you feel that I thought so little of what you do. I envy you for knowing so much about the English language. I only wish I knew half of what you know. It's not just about grammar or spelling, but also your knowledge of word usage. You compliment me on my vocabulary, but your vocabulary far exceeds mine. You know the perfect word, whether it's a noun, verb, adjective or adverb, you amaze me with your understanding of our language and if everyone had your talent there would be nothing we couldn't communicate at the highest level. You are truly a magician of words.
