Essay / Language and Communication Barriers - 811
Language barriers or communication barriers are related because language can hinder communication. For example, there are many people in UK and many of them do not know English language than others because English may not be their native language, that is -say their first language. This may also affect users even if English is their native language, but it may pose a barrier to communication if users may have difficulty communicating written or spoken due to visual or hearing impairment. The way in which the obstacle can be overcome is if service providers understand that they have other types of information available in multilingual formats, large print, audiocassette, sign language and/or video and Braille for users of the service who may have difficulty communicating with the service provider due to their language differences or even who may suffer from a disability that they may need assistance in speaking or writing. Another example of a language barrier is that when I was in primary school there was a girl called Areej who was a refugee from a country she went to school in and was bombed which left her caused due to the loss of her eye, this was difficult to communicate to her because she was blind and did not understand English. The way the barrier was overcome was to ask the student if she could speak to her so I could say hello to her only in Arabic where she understood what I was saying, that's when we We knew she could speak Arabic. That's when the school provided Areej with a translator, which allowed him to understand how to read Braille. This is where the teachers allowed us all to understand what she was reading and this allowed her to learn the English language to enable her to understand what was being said...... middle of paper ... ...she didn't understand the language but it had increased her knowledge because she had learned to speak English and be able to understand Braille and understand how to overcome the disability barrier and look for different options that could help her. This affected her social journey as she had to leave her home country and leave behind her friends, teachers and family because of the incident that had occurred. had made her feel excluded and made her feel like she could make friends because of her disability. But when Areej moved to school, she was a well-known and respected student because she made a lot of friends and realized that she couldn't feel sorry for herself and that she had to look at what the future held for her, that is, what different support she might get when she leaves school and goes to further her studies.
