  • Essay / Convincing the CEO of Change - 1924

Implementing successful communications strategies throughout the organization begins with the hospital's mission and core values. Alignment of goals within an organization must support the flow of work in order to achieve the desired results. As hospital demands continue to increase, we must do more work with fewer staff, creating an unwanted void. By using a workflow complementary to the operational aspect, employee buy-in is essential. Staff from across the hospital run the organization. By retaining these people, significant savings are made within the hospital. Robinson, editor-in-chief (2012), suggests that “hospitals are not like other businesses. Cutting prices is not an option, not when insurance companies, the government and HMOs are cutting pay to the bone. It is therefore essential to invest in employees. Hospitals must get the most out of their employees because they cannot buy their customers (Robinson 2012). Communication is important to keep staff autonomous. Participating in daily face-to-face meetings with employees increases positive work culture, morale and overall productivity. The hospital environment offers many different pathways from which it can be difficult to specify the most cost-effective pathway: therefore, looking at the care coordination model. from admission to discharge, we can begin to focus our energy on collaboration, communication, and coordination of care. By involving employees first thing in the morning, the workflow process begins. Coordinating patient care during rounds allows employees to participate in necessary interactions regarding their work culture. Tosti (2007) states “one way to define culture is the way a group of people prefer to behave” (p. 21). For the organization...... middle of paper ...... to create a positive work environment.
