This client reference document examines four schools in England – one primary (elementary) and three secondary – where innovative approaches to teaching and learning at large scale are continually implemented. . Each school is able to meet or exceed national government expectations while creating richer experiences for local people, and each makes extensive use of technologies for particular purposes. The article is based on an analysis of thirty-six existing video interviews with principals, teachers, governors, students, and local government officials, conducted for Microsoft, as well as follow-up telephone conversations by the author with a representative from each school. It identifies common themes and their implications, then shows in detail how each school addresses them.
