I became a volunteer at Cedar Creek Therapeutic Equestrian Center where I was matched with a horse, a rider, and two walkers. Patients varied in age and disability; my rider was a middle-aged man with mobility and communication disabilities, and as his leader, my job was to be his companion and keep him safe. I loved watching him grow and learn new moves every day, meet incredible people, and form friendships that will never be forgotten. Due to a scheduling conflict, I was unable to volunteer there the following semester. However, I became a volunteer at the university hospital where I took a job in May. In July, I became a volunteer at Adult Day Connection where I continue to develop communication skills and relationships that could one day change a life and make it easier to achieve my immediate and long-term goals.
