Nigeria is a large nation discovered in West Africa that is home to approximately 155,142,000 human beings. Surrounded by a body of water, it is the most populated country in Africa. Additionally, they are the most populated countries in the world. With their attractive resources such as oil deposits, they have attracted many individuals eager to take back their lands. They endured years of torture in an attempt to colonize themselves and persisted in their efforts to gain independence. Likewise, this country can be compared to the United States (Donnelley). The geography and environment of Nigeria contains the following. Nigeria is located in the northwest of the African continent. The Gulf of Guinea constitutes the northeasternmost part of the tropical Atlantic Ocean. In the north, the land mass is barren and flat. The central region is tropical and hilly. There are also southeastern plains and mountains in the south. Geography varies greatly from region to region. To the north, there are southern coastal swamps which contain tropical forests, woodlands, grasslands and semi-desert plains. Weather conditions are different everywhere. There may be soil degradation; oil pollution – water, air and soil. Nigeria experiences two types of seasons, a wet season and a dry season. A wet season usually begins in April and ends around October. There is a southwest wind which brings cloudy and rainy weather. There is also a dry season which begins in November and ends in March. This is when an east wind brings dust and good weather. (Dowing). The first human beings to set foot in Nigeria were the Portuguese.
