Essay / Compare and contrast Kate Chopin and Eudora Welty
Chopin is known for her use of dramatic style to propagate feminist rights and perspectives. According to Skaggs (1994), the common theme of Chopin's literary works was to demonstrate "the intrinsic conflict between the traditional requirement that a woman live around that of her husband and a woman's need to be a person discreet. . " (Skaggs, 1994, p. 635). Essentially, Chopin seeks to convey the argument that women are continually searching for self-realization and that sexual experience plays a large role in this quest. In accordance with this distinction, the story Regret revolves around a female protagonist, Mamzelle Aurelle, a single woman in her fifties, who lives with her dog One day, Mamzelle is entrusted with the care of her neighbor's children. (Odile), a task that she finds difficult at first but little by little she begins to enjoy taking care of the children and then is heartbroken when Odile takes them back (Chopin).,
