Essay / Sports Fans - 812
Sports are an integral part of American culture. With football, basketball and baseball being the most popular, the value of the sports industry is estimated at $422 billion. Of course, there would be no sports industry without fans. It's the fanatics that make the sport so special. While each devotee is unique, most can be categorized into four main groups: Bandwagon fans, casual fans, true hometown fans, and coaches. The Bandwagon FanWe all know this guy. A Bandwagon fan moves from one team to another based on popularity. If their supposed favorite team is in trouble, they will move on to another team. Most of the time, they don't start leaning on a team until after the playoffs. A Bandwagon fan also follows his favorite player. For example, when LeBron James signed a contract with the Miami Heat, his fans around the world immediately pretended to be Miami Heat fans. Most of them didn't even know who the other team members were. These fan bases seem to appear overnight and usually don't last very long. Want to know if anyone is a fan of the movement? Just ask them a question about the team's history. Chances are they don't know the answer. Being a fan of the movement has its pros and cons. Advantages – you are probably looking for the best team in the league, so they will more than likely be the favorite to win the championship. Plus, since you don't really have an emotional connection with the team, you won't be disappointed with the end result of the season. Cons: You are labeled as a bandwagon fan. It's never good. You're not a real fan and you're making lifelong fans look bad, but you label yourself as one. Biggest downside of all: You're on the bottom tier of all the fans. Nobody likes you, except that you are movement comrades. The Casual Fan There's...... middle of paper...like you're part of the team but on a whole different level. More importantly, it makes you feel like it's your purpose in life, because it's all you do – which can be a good or bad thing. Disadvantages of being the coach: No one wants to watch the game with you. They think you're boring and take it too seriously. Unfortunately, you devote yourself 100% to the sport and don't really do anything else. Your peers are tired of hearing about sports because of you. Your obsession could be killing your social life. Overall, sports fans are some of the most interesting people on the planet. Bandwagon fans like to change it up from time to time. Casual spectators are there for the pure pleasure of the show. Hometown/true fans show their support through the coaches lives and it revolves around athletics. Even though they are grouped together, each fan is one of a kind..
